Some hair loss treatment centers are using this method and claiming it promotes hair growth in bald spots. Earlier this year, the Food and Drug Administration approved a laser device for Hair Loss use.

Sunetics International of Las Vegas has developed a number of laser products for hair growth, including the Advanced Laser Therapy System for use in hair loss clinics.

Part of the equipment fits over the patient's head like a helmet.

Patient testimonials indicate the system works. But dermotologist Dr. Michael Maloney is not yet a believer.

He says there have been thousands of treatments for hair loss "and some of them don't work very well and some of them end up being dangerous."

Earlier this year, the FDA for the first time approved a laser device for Hair Loss use to promote hair growth.
