Wayne Rooney tops new poll for best celebrity hair transplant

Wayne Rooney has been voted the celebrity with the best hair transplant in a new poll.

The England and Manchester United striker just beat James Nesbitt and the Embarrassing Bodies doctor Christian Jessen in the survey to find top of the (transplanted) crops.

Dancing On Ice Star Jason Gardiner was fourth and the model-turned actor Calum Best fifth.

Respondents were also asked to name the five celebrities who would most benefit from a hair transplant – and Prince William was the runaway winner.

International heartthrob and actor Jude Law came second in the list of men who are in need of a more luscious mane.

Rooney was responsible for a 25 per cent surge in young men seeking hair transplants after he had his £30,000 operation two years ago.

Ironically, experts believe that Rooney will soon need a second transplant because he had surgery at such a young age when he was still rapidly losing his natural hair.

The survey of 1,000 people was carried out by the Crown Clinic in Manchester – the UK’s leading hair transplant clinic.

Surgeon Asim Shahmalak from the Crown Clinic said that Rooney was the most popular role model for men seeking transplants.

Dr Shahmalak, hair loss expert on TV’s Embarrassing Bodies, said: ‘It took a lot of guts for Wayne to come forward and admit that he’d had a transplant.

‘He must have feared that he would get lots of stick for having it done at matches but funnily enough that hasn’t happened.

‘Most men have thought, good on you, Wayne.

’They realise it must be pretty devastating to lose your hair at such a young age and a transplant is the only effective solution.’

Dr Shahmalak said that Rooney would need a second transplant if he wanted to keep a full head of hair.

He said: ‘Wayne’s first transplant was very good but he had it at such a young age. While the transplanted hair will be permanent, Wayne will continue to lose his natural hair. He’ll need a second one fairly soon.’

Dr Shahmalak said that Prince William was the overwhelming winner of the poll to find the celebrity who would most benefit from a hair transplant.

He said: ‘William’s baldness is even worse than Prince Charles’s. It would send out such a great message if he were to have a transplant.’

He said that Jude Law was also showing significant hair loss.

Dr Shahmalak said: ‘Jude has gone very, very thin at the temples. He would really benefit from a transplant.’
