Kaya launches hair loss preventions solutions

Marico Industries Kaya Skin Clinic (KSC) launched their Hair Loss Prevention Solutions (HLPS) in Bangalore today, which will be followed by its national roll out across all 44 Kaya clinics in India and three clinics in the Middle East.

Kaya skin care recently opened a clinic in Abu Dhabi, and has five clinics in Bangalore.

KSC CEO Rakesh Pandey said, “Currently the hair care industry is characterised by well segmented offerings that focus more on the appearance than on the overall health of the hair.

There are a limited number of comprehensive hair diagnostics that get to the root of common problems like dandruff, hair loss, etc., and inadequate avenues for providing customized and holistic solutions.”

KSC plans to utilise their team of 130 dermatologists (which they claim is the largest in the world under one umbrella) for this new venture, since they say that the scalp is the extension of the skin.

The company also announced the launch of three new Kaya products and French Phyto Shampoos, which will be sold exclusively through Kaya in India. The three new products are: Kaya Hair Health gel, Kaya Anti-dandruff Shampoo and Kaya Nourishing Shampoo. All these products will be available in India in KSC clinics only.

The Kaya HLPS treatment addresses common hair problems for men and women. The basic three month package costs Rs 990, a price which includes the products for that period. The package also includes three consultations with a hair specialist and includes examination, analysis of the problem, lifestyle and dietary recommendations.

KSC has seen a tremendous growth according to Pandey over the three and half year period since they started. Their revenues have been rising rapidly from Rs 50 million in the first year of operations to Rs 200 million in the second year to Rs 700 million in the third. Around 10 - 12 per cent of the revenues are spent on campaigns which include radio jingles, outdoor hoardings and print media, besides BTL activities such as workshops, etc.

The hair care solutions market taking the middle class and above market into account is estimated by Pandey to be around Rs 500 million in India. Pandey expects to capture around 20 per cent (Rs 100 million) during the first year.
