Japan Drug Maker Banyu to Import Oral Drug
for Hair Loss

Banyu Pharmaceutical Co. said Tuesday it has obtained Japanese government approval to import the first oral drug for male pattern hair loss.
The Propecia was developed by major U.S. pharmaceutical firm Merck & Co., Banyu's parent company. It slows progress of hair loss and promotes hair growth, according to the companies.
The prescription drug has been approved in more than 60 countries.
Banyu hopes to start sales of the Propecia in Japan by the end of this year, a company spokesman said. It plans to set the price at 250 yen per tablet for patients
