Kuwait water blamed cause of baldness

In this week’s online poll, Arab Times asked voters to vote on the reasons for baldness in Kuwait. A majority of voters blamed the ministry-supplied chemically treated water for the growing incidence of baldness. 48% held this opinion.

water and baldness

People who spoke to the Arab Times said that the chemicals in the water affects hair and increases hair fall. People naturally disposed to baldness will get bald sooner if they bathe in this water every day, the respondents said.

A man complained that baldness runs in his family; “however, I became bald before my brother who is 5 years older than me and who lives in a village in India where there’s good water available in plenty.”

Even women suffer hair loss because they bathe in this chemically treated water, a few other respondents said. Graying of hair is also caused by bathing in chemical-polluted water, they added.

All those who spoke to the Arab Times agreed that there’s not much the government can do about it, “because we know that clean water is in great scarcity in many parts of the world, including regions with high rainfall. We should be thankful that we are blessed with an abundance of water at such low cost in a desert country.”

9% of the people felt the climate in Kuwait is the culprit. The climatic condition in Kuwait is characterized by cycles of heat, dust and cold. This can have a devastating effect on your hair, they felt.

One respondent said he suffered massive hair loss when he was caught up in a dust storm. “As soon as I reached home, I took a shower and the sink got clogged with my hair.” Ever since he has been losing hair steadily, although there’s no baldness that runs in his family.

Unhealthy lifestyle and food, say 7% of the voters. People should stop drawing a line between health and appearance. Good looks come from good health. When you abuse your health through wrong diet and sedentary lifestyle, it takes a toll on your appearance, including hairline, they noted.

About 12% of the voters dismissed all these views saying that it runs in the genes. They say nature has the final say on our physical features, and we should stop bickering over these issues. If you have the baldness genes in you, then nothing can stop it from coming.

Those who spoke to the Arab Times in support of this view said it would be better for people to think of remedies like hair fixing or hair transplants. They took the example of many famous Hollywood and Bollywood stars, “who set the screen on fire with their ravishing looks, especially their flowing, glowing hair... and we know that there’s no way a man at that age can have such abundant hair growth.

10% of voters suggested warm showers could be the cause of baldness, while 3 % said your traditional clothes could have a bearing on the phenomenon. They were referring to the customary head gears popular in the region. “People who cover their head have a better chance of saving their hair from falling.”
