Hair Club looks at hair loss and relationships

Men are not quite as comfortable with their baldness

Feb 2010

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Hair Club of New England has commissioned a survey to gauge how important hair loss is when it comes to dating and relationships.

Considering the fact that it provides hair loss treatments, the findings are a bit of a mixed bag for the company in terms of measuring the demand for its services.

Sure, there’s the one stat that shows nearly 24 percent of respondents turned down an opportunity to date a guy because he appeared to be losing his hair. It’s enough to make any single dude reach for the Rogaine.

But it’s worth noting that means the majority of women don’t recall ever rejecting a man because of how much hair he didn’t have. And the survey found that half of the respondents say it’s not very important to them that their romantic partner have a full head of hair.

Nearly all the women said they would rather date someone with noticeable hair loss than someone who was shorter than them.

But men aren’t quite as comfortable with their baldness. Steven Barth, founder of the local Hair Club chapter, says he was surprised that 84 percent said they wouldn’t go fully bald for a year if it could make the New England Patriots win the Super Bowl. Sure, many Pats fans are crazy. But they aren’t that crazy.
