Dr. Bauman, who speaks on Saturday, November 9th, is presenting research on the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), also known as the “Vampire” treatment, for wound healing after hair transplantation and as a stand-alone treatment for stimulating hair growth.

The event is hosted by Dr. Dipnarine Maharaj, medical director of the institute and medical director of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine’s Stem Cell Fellowship.

“PRP is an exciting new treatment for hair loss patients, with considerable potential both in terms of new growth stimulation and also for faster wound-healing after surgical procedures,” Dr. Bauman said. “My talk will explore the work we’ve done at Bauman Medical Group with this relatively new treatment for hair follicle rejuvenation and provide helpful insights and lessons for other doctors who want to incorporate it into their own practices.

We will also be discussing the adjunctive use of extracellular matrix products like ACell/Matristem and a new, FDA-approved human-harvested stem cell-containing extracellular matrix product called Amnio-MTM (BioD) derived from human amnion (placental) tissue.

Dr. Maharaj is a well-known and highly respected figure in the stem cell field and I’m honored to have been asked to participate in this program.”

PRP is a natural, side-effect free regenerative treatment with multiple applications, including nerve damage, cardiac muscle injury, bone and ligament repair/regeneration, and is gaining popularity in many areas of medicine, such as sports medicine, oral surgery and plastic surgery.

Bauman is one of the few US doctors to use PRP as a treatment for hair loss, and he’s been studying its effectiveness on patients for over two years at his Boca Raton clinic.

A recent study published in the British Journal of Dermatology found that PRP treatments helped to reverse a specific type of hair loss called alopecia areata.

“The medical community has been studying the applicability of platelet-rich plasma therapy for many years, but only recently have we begun to look into its potential for hair loss patients,” Bauman said. “What initially began as a way to repair damaged nerves, tissues, ligaments, joints, tendons and bones is now being seen as a way to stimulate this same type of cellular growth cosmetically for facial rejuvenation, and in the case of androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata, as a way to rejuvenate weakened follicles and produce hair regrowth without drugs or surgery.”
